ESC PROJECT AT 4H FARM
Animals, Children and YOUTH

About 4H Farm in Växjö:
The 4H farm is located in the area of Hovshaga, north of Växjö city center. It is a meeting place for all children and youth who loves animals and wants a meaningful lesiure time. 4H is always open for the public. Växjö 4H is offering different daily activites for children and youth as well as holiday camps and acitivites. At 4H-farm in Växjö we have horses, sheep, rabbits, chickens, goats, cats and pigs. In springtime we have a lot of baby animals. We work especially with the old Swedish breeds and participate in a national project working with protecting these breeds. Many of these breeds are endangered. We have a small garden where we grow herbs and vegetables. The daily work at Växjö 4H-farm can include feeding the animals, cleaning the stables, taking care of the farm by fixing fences etc, activities for children and much more. The daily chores are changing by the seasons. No day is like the other.
What we do:
4H is an international youth association with a large variety of activities ranging from cultivation and animals to sports and drama. This enables most young people to find activities of their interests within the 4H. In Sweden there are several hundreds 4H clubs spread through the country. Most activities are carried out in the local clubs. Some of them also have a club farm. The vision of 4H is to enable all children and youth to develop into committed, prosperous and responsible individuals with respect for the world around them.

Activities for volunteers:
● Creating projects and activities for children and teenagers
● Being responsible for teaching and guiding them in the daily tasks
● Holding tours around the farm with small children
● Taking care of our animals everyday
● Learning about the animals and try riding, horse driving or other activities with them
● Practical work around the farm like fixing fences or stables
● Growing plants and gardening
● Implementing the goals of Agenda 2030 in the farm work (sustainability work)
→ There is usually also some baking, crafting, crafts, games and various outdoor activities taking part besides the pure animal activities.
We are looking for a volunteer who:
● Is interested in working with children, youth and animals
● Has an interest in gardening
● Wants to learn more about the 4H Farm animals
● Wants to contribute actively in reaching global environmental goals
● Enjoys working in a team with people
● Wants to show the public how it is to run a farm
● Is flexible and creative
● Comes up with new ideas and shows motivation and energy
Food, accommodation and transportation:
The volunteers will receive food-money and pocket every month. The pocket money will be 150 euros. The volunteer will live in a shared apartment either outside Växjö or in the City, having his/her own room and sharing bathroom, kitchen and other common areas. The volunteer will get either a bus card or a bicycle to commute, depending on the distance from our office to the housing. There is Wifi in the accommodation.
Växjö and Kronoberg:
Växjö is a municipality of 80.000 inhabitants in the region of Kronoberg, in the region of Småland in the south of Sweden. It is situated 2,5 hours by train from Copenhagen, Denmark and 4 hours from Stockholm. Växjö municipality has been awarded several international awards for its environmental work, including the European Green Leaf Award 2018 from the European Commission.
